SUMMER TASK : KIMBERELY JONES (TEXTILES IN PRACTICE)

Kimberley Jones' degree show work was unique and different to the other two artists I've blogged about. Her work was what gave me the inspiration to work with beads over the summer, mixed with different fabrics. I love her clusters of manipulated fabrics with beading work following through. They almost look like mini cotton buds hanging upside down. Although I wasn't that keen on her colour choice, I think the idea was there and the drawings to go along side it were moving. They work really well along side her work, to show where her initial ideas came from.

Jones' work revolves around the uses of natural material and dyes, by using her hands as her main drawing tool. She takes inspiration from earthy tones and woodland landscapes, then applies the colours and textures into her drawings and samples. She is also good at composition, she knows where to apply busy fabrics and textiles next to more simple bits. Her final pieces weren't of anything specific, but one off pieces that you'd see in a gallery or part of a wall piece. I would like to bring aspects of her drawing skills into my work, I appreciate her line movements that compliment her samples.
